Hoya latifolia 'Pot of Gold'

Hoya latifolia 'Pot of Gold' is a broad-leaved variegated Hoya with warm yellow to cream colouring through the centre of the leaf and green margins around it. The contrast is strongest on mature, healthy leaves, while new growth can shift in tone as it expands and hardens.

This is a climbing Hoya with broad leaves, warm central variegation and a fuller mature habit. The stems need a hoop, ladder or firm frame as they gain weight, while the root zone needs air around it after watering.

Warm-centred leaves on climbing latifolia vines

  • Leaf pattern: Broad leaves carry yellow to cream central variegation with green outer sections.
  • Growth habit: Twining stems can be trained upward, around a hoop, or along a firm frame.
  • Texture: Thick leaves store water and make watering problems show gradually through firmness and colour.
  • Plant scale: The leaf size creates a fuller, heavier plant as the vine matures.

Central variegation and mature growth

Hoya latifolia is native from Myanmar to western Malesia and grows as a climbing epiphyte or lithophyte in wet tropical conditions. Hoya latifolia 'Pot of Gold' keeps that climbing structure, with green margins and warm pale tissue through the leaf centre.

Bright filtered light keeps new growth firm while reducing scorch risk on pale central tissue. The plant may pause after shipping, repotting or changes to its hoop or trellis, then resume growth once the roots and vines settle.

Care for yellow-centred leaves

  • Light: Provide bright indirect light for firm growth; protect the pale central variegation from hot direct sun.
  • Watering: Water evenly, then let the pot dry partly before the next watering so the epiphytic roots stay aerated.
  • Substrate: Choose a chunky Hoya mix with bark and mineral drainage to prevent a dense wet core.
  • Training: Give the vines a firm structure early, as broad leaves add weight as the plant matures.
  • Humidity: Keep humidity moderate to high during active leaf expansion to reduce edge stress.
  • Temperature: Maintain warm indoor conditions, with nights preferably above 16–18°C.
  • Flowering care: Leave flowering spurs in place after bloom, as Hoyas can produce later clusters from old peduncles.

Yellow tissue, roots and vine checks

  • Brown marks in pale tissue: Check for strong sun, dry heat, or water stress while new leaves are soft.
  • Yellowing green sections: Inspect roots and substrate moisture, as wet roots often show first through leaf colour changes.
  • Small weak leaves: Increase filtered light and check whether the plant has enough warmth for new growth.
  • Loose or snapping vines: Tie stems before they become heavy, using soft ties that do not cut into the vine.

Plant safety

Hoya latifolia 'Pot of Gold' is grown for ornamental foliage and should not be ingested. Keep pruned pieces away from pets and children, and wash hands after cutting stems because Hoyas can release milky sap.

Hoya latifolia name background

Hoya latifolia G.Don is an accepted species in Apocynaceae, first published in 1837. The genus Hoya honours Thomas Hoy, and the species epithet latifolia refers to broad leaves.

Hoya latifolia 'Pot of Gold' matures with broad leaves, green margins and warm yellow central variegation on climbing stems.

Not good for small dog or puppy and only one came
Size: Large
Only one arrived- expecting two, as the picture showed. And honestly my dog keeps getting its jaw hooked on the product. I wouldnt recommend this product for a smaller jawed dog or puppy.

Our dog loves this toy so much we bought her a second one!
Size: Large, Size: Large
This is absolutely the best dog toy! Our girl has destroyed just about every other toy we have gotten her, but these have lasted 4 months with no sign of damage or wear (just lots of dirt!). She always has one of these in her mouth (occasionally both when she manages it). They survive tug of war, they are great for throwing, and even better for kicking. Have two is super handy for alternating which ball you kick/throw. Super glad we found them - I can't recommend them enough!

Just 1 toy!
Size: Medium
We have a big dog and a small dog. This is a perfect toy for both of them. However, my low rating comes from the seller. The ad description showed two balls for just under $15. (What a deal!). I received one ball….. and when I went to look back, it does in fact say much lower in the description “ you will receive one of these two color options” Generally, if they’re just showing you color, you have a choice in this case I did not have a choice and I find the post with two balls very deceiving! Five stars for the toy one star for the seller equals three stars

Better than the others
Size: Large
I was in search of a ball that would hold up after the brand I’d bought for years suddenly lasted less than a month. This one is almost 3 months in use. Some damage done after playing with it almost non-stop, but still going.

Heavy chewer approved.
Style: Ball, Size: Medium (Pack of 1)
My pomsky will destroy a toy in minutes. Ropes, and the "indestructible" nylon type stuffs are no match for my furry shark. This ball has stood up to him like David. He loves the crunch and it is so much more tolerable than a squeaker. These will be a staple in his toy box - Chuckit toys are really the most durable dog toys I have found in three years.
